Central Idea : People's actions impact our world's water supply.
Water Quality Test Reflection
What was your prediction?
My prediction was that the water would be about 15- 20 degrees celsius.
What was your result?
My result was that the water was 14 degrees celsius.
What does the result show you about the backyard habitat?
The results show me that the water is good for aquatic life.
How do we contribute positively or negatively to the water quality as a neighborhood
community? One way we contribute positively is that we is some people pick up trash that might go into the storm drain. One way people contribute negatively is that some people dump their drinks into the backyard habitat wetland. They also litter is is bad for the water quality.
Go back to the intro video. Would you drink the habitat water? What have you learned so far?
I would not drink the water in the habitat. Some reasons I have for that is 1. It looks really dirty. 2. The area that the water is in is really smelly and muddy. 3. The animal that live in the habitat might drink from that water and some animal carry diseases. Some thing I have learned so far is how to measure the water temperature and convert it to fahrenheit from celsius. I have also learned that if the water is too warm it isn’t habitable for aquatic life.
Dana Point Reflection
One thing I found interesting was looking at the dolphins and the whales. Also, I liked learning about the life cycle of a jellyfish. One other thing I liked was dissecting a mackerel.
What did you learn while on land at the Ocean Institute?
One thing I learned on land was that jellyfish eat phytoplankton. Also, I learned about what animals could live together in a tank. I also learned that you have to have the right type of water or else you can’t put fish in a tank. One other thing is that trash can look like jellyfish to other animals in the water.
What did you learn while on the boat at the Ocean Institute?
I learned about some different invertebrates that live in the mud on the ocean floor. I also learned that different whales have a different amount of blow holes. Also, I learned that bull sea lions can grow to get really big. I also liked looking at the plankton under the microscopes.
How do people’s actions affect the marine (ocean) ecosystem?
One way they affect the ecosystem is littering in the ocean. That can get in animals and kill them. If they die a different animal that eats them will die because they have no food. Also, that could affect our lives. If sharks don’t get food they might come closer to shore in search of food that could be dangerous to humans.
How can you apply what you learned today to your life? Is there anything you can do to try and help our ocean, its ecosystem, and our Earth’s water supply?
I can apply the stuff I learned to my life by telling people not to litter. I could pick up litter on the beach and I could teach others about the different mammals in the ocean. Also, I can pick up trash that is near storm drains so that they do not go into the ocean.
Soar Reflection
One thing I learned about how the Safari park recycles their water is that they use the water in a certain exhibit. Next they run the dirty water through a filter that filters the water and anything that might be bad. Then, they move the water to an exhibit for the next animal. The Safari park connects with our ib water unit by conserving water. They reuse their water which doesn’t waste as much water.
Some things I enjoyed about the Safari park were looking at the lions. I also enjoyed watching all of the animals on the tram. One thing I would like to have to done was go on the tiger trail. Also, I would like to go and see the gorilla. I liked going to the place with all of the birds where you can feed them. Also, I liked looking at the goats at the petting zoo.
Final Reflection: I am caring because I care for my pets. I am reflective because I reflect on what I did at school sometimes. I am a communicator because I talk to my grandparents. I show commitment
